What do you believe is the purpose of a college education?
I believe that the purpose of a college education is to gain knowledge to help prepare us for a career in the near future. By learning new skills and information, it really helps us to become specialized in a certain area. To get a job it is important to be well rounded in all areas and college also provides us with experiences that educate us. College takes a lot of hard work and dedication, by having this mind set and great work ethic now, it also leads us up to the hard work that will pay off in our careers. In college we also learn other things such as time management and how to deal with stress, two things that are also very important throughout life.
What does it mean to be educated?
I believe that being educated can be taken in various different ways. Personally I believe that being educated means that a person is able to problem solve, be creative, and be a well-rounded person. If a person is able to take a situation and back it up with good reasons and facts I believe they are well educated and also well rounded. I also believe that a person is educated if they have the skills they need to go to a job interview and end up with the job.
What experiences have you had with education that led you to this belief?
Ever since freshman year in high school I have strongly tried my very best to get all A's and to learn the most that I possibly could. I always went out of my way taking AP classes and even taking college classes in 11th grade. I did not decided to do this just for the credit, but simply because I wanted to learn about things that interested me. I went out of my way and took all different types of classes to see what I liked and did not like to come to discover that business was my main interest. By going out of my comfort zone and taking different types of classes at a higher level, I became more well-rounded in the education that I was gaining.
